The hillside before planting. Josh admires the hole for the Red Pine (Pinus resinosa) selected for its ability to handle hot, dry sites with poor soil.
Jason and Tara unwrap the pine. Jason, Sally, Kathy, Josh and Tara work on the hillside planting. Here they are putting in Winterberry and Bunchberry, two native plants adapted to shade.
Liz and Josh start digging the hole for the sugar maple. The hillside in progress
2 paths come down into the hillside plant walk. Along these one will find: Royal Fern, Cinnamon Fern, Staghorn Sumac, Black Chokeberry, Sheep Laurel, Blue Flag Iris and Winterberry Charlie built steps into the bank to allow non-erosive access to the walk.
Late summer: the plants have been thriving, the mulch has dulled a bit in color. Late summer: Charlie is allowing native weeds to crop up and further fill in the hillside.
